Hot Wheels: Corvette C7 Z06 Convertible (HW Roadsters 5/5)

Anytime I see a Hot Wheels Corvette I don't already own I can't resist the urge to pick it up. In this case I found a new version of a model I previously own...but this time in my favorite color!

Beautiful car. I ended up having to look at several different specimens as the paint apps are hit and miss, just like on action figures. I particularly like the red chrome outline on the wheels.

I found the blue model first, but the red is definitely my favorite. Fits this model Corvette like a glove.

Hot Wheels: HW Showroom Corvette

Anytime I can find a Hot Wheels Corvette that I don't already own is a chance for me to bring home a new car.  I don't really follow the die-cast scene like I did at one point in time, but that doesn't mean I don't scour the pegs at my local retail stores hoping to find something new.

The packaging didn't give a year or model, but from the stamp underneath the car it's a 2009 ZR1.  Candy apple red with white wheels...yes please!

This is one of my favorite Corvette models and the red and white just made it that much more attractive to me.  The 10 spoke wheels look great in white.  This is by far my favorite release of the ZR1 that I currently own.

Hot Wheels: Mystery Models '69 Corvette

It seems that blind packaged toys are all the rage these days.  Just head down the trading card aisle at your local Target store and you'll see what I'm talking about.  They are even starting to impede on the amount of trading cards merchandised on the shelves!  It seems that this trend has hit Mattel as my daughter and I found these new blind packaged Hot Wheels a few weeks ago at Walmart.

Now while the packaging may be new, the concept of blind packaged 'mystery' cars is not new for Mattel or for Hot Wheels.  I remember a few years back there were carded Hot Wheels blister cards with a solid black plastic bubble.  I don't remember how many different cars were in the assortment, but this lead to finding a lot of opened packages at retail.

I'm guessing this is the reason Mattel opted to include a small circular 'window' on the back letting you see a very small portion of the vehicle inside.  When I saw there was a Corvette in the mix I was happy to know I had a chance of finding the vehicle I wanted.  After going through nearly a box and a half I found it!

  

  

Even though I have several versions of this '69 Corvette I couldn't pass up the chance of picking up another.  Plus the blue and white paint job is gorgeous.

Nice selection of vehicles in the assortment.  These are priced slightly higher than your standard Hot Wheel at $1.19 each (Walmart's price).  At least this was one blind packaged toy that I didn't have to buy completely blind.

Hot Wheels & Corvettes

What little boy didn't enjoy playing with Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars growing up?  I know I had my fair share of the small die-cast metal cars and trucks when I was little.  Transformers got me into collecting toys as a hobby and for awhile I tried to build sets of the new model HWs, but I had a hard time staying excited about the cars.  Over the years I've peeked at the die-cast section while at various stores, but until my 2 year old daughter took an interest in HWs I haven't bought many.  A few weeks ago however I noticed a new Back of the Future HW car at Toys R Us that I grabbed for a friend.  This is when I noticed 2 new Corvettes.  My dad was very much a car guy and he owed several Corvettes in the 60's.  This lead me to taking an interest in Corvettes myself.  Being poor I've had to settle with the toy versions of the iconic Chevrolet.

2009 Corvette Stingray Concept - Faster Than Ever '11 #08/10

I first saw the 2009 Corvette Stingray Concept in the Transformers line as Sideswipe was based on this model.  This is the first time I've seen the concept in HW form and I love it!

Red looks great on any model Corvette in my opinion and this model is no different.  The metallic red is down right beautiful.  The wheels aren't my favorite design, but I like the addition of the copper.

 

Right after pulling the concept model off the pegs I found a another Corvette!

'11 Corvette Grand Sport - 2011 New Models #32/50

Wide-body styling meets racing-bred suspension, plus improved fuel economy.  This baby can spend weekends at the track still do 9-to-5 in style.

I can't say that I'm all that familiar w/ this new Grand Sport model, but again it's a great looking addition to the Corvette family.  The metallic blue works really well.  I love the wheel design - I just wish they were copper like on the concept model.
